AmplituDS v4 gets two new stages

The recently released AmplituDS v4 gets an update in the shape of two new playable stages. No new download of the game is needed; these stages can be downloaded seperately on the AmplituDS forums linked to at the bottom of this post. And there is no need to register on the forums to be able to download the stages posted on it.

The new stages are "Chip nr one" and "Voxelbuffer". Next to the included "Tetris" and the other two already seperately downloadable stages "Unreal" and "Ode to Megaman", this brings the new stages for the 4.0 version of AmplituDS to a total of 5.

PIXELMAN v.91 Released

Updates in v.91:

  • Modification of palette colors. I intend to merge the transparency edit and palette edit into one option though, because it's a tad redundant...
  • Choice of whether you want to save palette or sprite AND choice of file names
  • More files visible in palettes and sprites folders when loading.
  • Some slight look changes, and randomization of speed of the little intro graphic.
Still to Come:
  • Change of working directory so nds file can be wherever you want it on your card. Will be possible with n00bey's help showing me the chdir() function.
  • Saving/loading binary files.
  • Restart option... this I'm procrastinating on...
and a surprise I hope people will really enjoy, but it's going to take awhile to code...

jEnesisDS 0.7.4 Released

Lordus has released an updated version of the Sega Megadrive/Genesis emulator jEnesisDS. Not much is new in this version but there is apparently a considerable increase in sound and speed.

I decided to release a little update, although most of the things I wanted to do for the next version are not done yet. jEnesisDS 0.7.4 has no new features, but I think it's still worth the update, as the speed is improved by up to 30% and the sound is substantially better.

Changelog:

  1. Changed scheduling of M68000 and Z80.
  2. Some changes in M68000 internal memory handlers.
  3. YM2612 FM core mostly rewritten in ASM.
  4. Some bugs in FM core fixed (Operator 1 was sometimes not considered in certain cases).
  5. Fixed reset bug for FM core resulting in unstable sound for every game loaded except the 1st one.
  6. Raised sample rate for FM emulation from 16KHz to 28KHz (28, because a few games can't do 32KHz)
  7. Sound is completely mixed in hardware now, meaning every FM channel, PSG and DAC have their own DS sound channels.

FrodoDS 080523 Released

Troy Davis (GPF) has recently been working on FrodoDS, the Commodore 64 emulator for the DS. This isn't the freshest news I must admit but a worthy news post all the same.

This latest version features increased framerates, easier disk browsing and real-time savestates.

I finally had some time to work on FrodoDS again after nearly a year without an update, I have added save snapshot support and loading snapshots directly from filelist.

Will save the snapshot using the currently mounted .D64 name changing extension to .FSS. This new functionality is on the button X.

Also now when it starts the filelist will no longer popup automatically, so after the c64 boots up, press the left trigger to bring up the filelist, now if you select a snapshot file ending in .FSS, it will automount the same name with .D64 and then autostart the snapshot.

NitroTracker 0.4 Released

Tobias Weyand has released an updated version of the top quality application NitroTracker. This is still one of my favorite applications on the DS to date so it's great to see another update. There is quite alot new in this version so checkout the changelog below for more information. Don't forget you can always use the built-in DS mic to create some crazy tunes from household objects which is always fun or even hook the DS up to DS Midi for more entertainment value.

Finally! NitroTracker v0.4 is here!

I've been distracted a bit by the completely non-musical but quite entertaining Pocket Physics, but now I'm back on track. Pun intended.

  • Loops
  • Volume Envelopes (drawable)
  • Multi-Sample Instruments
  • Channel Mute / Solo
Lots of tiny improvements

There's hardly a part of the program that wasn't touched since the last release. I've paid a lot of attention to detail in order to make NitroTracker an easy and convenient to use, yet powerful mobile tracker. Some of these changes are:
  • wav saving
  • free ram indicator
  • sample preview
  • the file browser remembers recent folders and files
  • improved xm player
  • volume column editing
  • sample panning
  • improved left handed mode
Want to hear what it sounds like?

Some awesome tracks made with NitroTracker can be listened to on the download page.

New Tutorials

The documentation has been updated with new tutorials on editing samples and loops. You can learn how to tune your instruments and apply volume envelopes and how to hook up the DS to MIDI.

Woopsi V0.34 Released

Homebrew developer Ant512 recently rolled out the latest build to the GUI library tool designed for the Nintendo DS, Woopsi. Version 0.34 includes a lot of new changes, such as the addition of several code fixes and optimizations to help make the program run a lot smoother.

For those of you not familiar with Woopsi, it's essentially a homebrew used to create user interfaces for other homebrew software. Designed for use on the DS platform, it was modeled heavily from the AmigaOS windowing system.

Here's a statement released by developer regarding the new changes added in Woopsi 0.34:

This release mainly consists of changes I made before other commitments got in the way of my coding projects. Changes include protected copy constructors for all gadgets, several major fixes to the SuperBitmap drawing routines, SDL fixes and a few new examples including WPaint, a FileRequester demo and a DimmedScreen demo.

I've also managed to add in the two new events discussed in the last post. Gadgets now fire EVENT_MOVE_FORWARD and EVENT_MOVE_BACKWARD events when their raiseToTop() and lowerToBottom() methods are called. The AmigaWindow fires the EVENT_MOVE_FORWARD event. The screen doesn't fire that event yet, but I'll get around to it eventually.

Woopsi 0.34 comes with several detailed documentation files explaining its different features and how to use the program on your handheld. Please make sure to browse through them before copying any files to your DS.

Tuna-viDS version 1.1 Released

Basically, the Tuna-viDS enables playback of videos encoded in AVI format with Xvid video and MP3 encoded audio.

Granted, being able to play videos encoded in the most common formats will certainly make lives easier for those who would want to watch anime and other films using the Ninty handheld. Here's the changelog notes for the latest version, v1.1 (notes on previous version here):

New release, with contributions from Robin Watts (building on work from Sophie Wilson & Paul Gardiner), Costas, and ecurtz (building on work from Thoduv).

This release has stereo MP3 support, faster colour space conversion, and actually allows vertical heights less than 192 rows.

Important installation procedures as well as notes on file formats are in the documentation included in the download. As always, do go over them to ensure optimal playback of your videos.
