Aspyr has partnered with Nobilis Publishing to introduce the successful Nintendo DS titles Emma at the Farm and Emma in the Mountains to the United States. Bringing the French literary heroine to young girls in the US for the first time, the Emma games feature engaging and educational gameplay utilizing all of the interaction possible on DS. To guide Emma through her adventures, players must manipulate the stylus as well as the microphone to race, choose outfits, find items, call to other characters or blow debris out of the way. The stories of both games teach young girls to identify animals, discover plants and interact with and preserve nature. At the same time, players have fun racing toboggans, finding groundhogs and coordinating Emma's outfits.

The Emma titles each contain a story mode and a mini-game mode where players can play through the activities individually. Mini-games include finding Emma's lost keys, cleaning up the trash in the forest, locating groundhogs in a maze, building a snowman and learning to cook with recipes. The well-rounded gameplay makes Emma a role model for young children as well as a virtual best friend inside Nintendo DS.

In Emma at the Farm, Emma is tasked with helping her uncle Jules take care of the animals on his farm. Along the way, players must help Emma identify farm animals, learn about vegetables in the garden and become a better chef by discovering new recipes. All of the 18 mini-games in Emma at the Farm center around animals, nature, cooking and fashion.

Emma grows concerned about the groundhogs in Emma in the Mountains because they haven't come out of hibernation yet. She sets out to investigate with Andy and her dog Pickles. Players help Emma solve the mystery of the missing groundhogs through talking to other characters and completing mini-game activities with them. Games and bonus modes are unlocked once completed so that players can compete for high scores with friends at any time. Completing every mini-game at the normal difficultly level also unlocks a more challenging 'expert' mode.

Emma at the Farm and Emma in the Mountains will release later this fall on Nintendo DS. Each game has an SRP of $29.99 and is rated E for Everyone.

XIDER Games is to release Ankh: Curse of the Scarab King on Nintendo DS. Following the success of the popular PC versions, this fun and colourful adventure will be available to play on DS in September 2008. Players will need to think outside the box and solve many puzzles in order to explore new areas in their quest to save the young adventurer, Assil, from the death curse put on him by an ancient Mummy.

Mischievous Assil steals his father's key to get into the Scarab King's tomb. As he and his friends party away inside, their search for a bottle opener rudely awakens a Mummy. Unhappy at being disturbed from his peaceful slumber and unimpressed by the gang breaking seven of his precious urns, the Mummy casts a lethal curse upon Assil leaving him with just 24 hours to live. Shocked, Assil stumbles back home where he is greeted by his unhappy father, who grounds him for a week so he is unable to escape the house.

The game begins in Assil's bedroom. Players must help him escape from captivity without crossing the path of his angry father. The stylus or the d-pad can be used to direct Assil around his environment, discovering clues to help solve puzzles and progress through the quest. The bottom left hand corner of the screen displays four hieroglyphic symbols that players can select to look, talk, pick up and use items.

Players will need to examine every bit of their surroundings, as objects that look harmlessly decorative may play a key role in moving the quest forwards. For instance, by combining two items of clothing found lying around, a rope is produced sufficient for escaping his room through the window. Other objects stored in the inventory can be combined with each other to create new and inventive ways of solving puzzles. There is however an easy setting to guide players to the key objects so they can progress.

Time is of the essence though, as Assil must find the Pharaoh, the only person who can save his life, before time is up!

Tako2 Lab!'s DsDsRevolution, a stepmania clone for NDS. This has been around for ages but has never been posted here, the latest version being 0.4.2 released last month. DsDsRevolution uses Stepmania files (.sm) and mp3 files for music. If you aren't familiar with stepmania you should know you will need these sm files to even play the game. But the good thing is you can make your own, so essentially you can play any song you like. Check out stepmania homepage for faqs, song downloads and more info on creating your own songs.

Gaz at the PAlib forums has submitted his first DS project. A board game style homebrew similar to Yahtzee named 5 Dice.

I have finally finished my first game for the Nintendo DS. The game is called 5 Dice and is very similar to Yahtzee, there are only a couple of changes from the original game (5 Dice) and (All Dice).

You are allowed three thows of the dice, after your first throw you can choose wheather or not to hold the dice. On your third and final throw you must choose a score on the card-sheet.

OlliPolli posted an offline Wikipedia reader on the PAlib forums. "At the moment DSwiki can't do more than displaying mostly unformatted wiki markup of articles (but word and line breaks and a proportional font make it easily readable)". Check the included readme file for further instructions on how to install and use DSwiki.

I am releasing version 0.1alpha1 of my first real project for the DS.
It is called DSwiki, and it is an offline viewer for the wikipedia or all other wikis which are based on the mediawiki framework.

A sample wiki (German Wikiquotes) is included to test basic functionality. The interface language is german, but there are only some status messages.

Two images are attached, the first showing a normal wiki article, the second showing the very good Unicode support.

nyarlu labs have put out a funny one "Magnetic Shaving Derby". Just looking at it reminds me a lot of the shaving game from Wario Ware Twisted. This project could take note from WWT's cartridge, by getting slot-2 rumble packs working with it. Just to give the feel of a razor buzzing for added effect when it shaves the stubble.

After well over a year without any news, Goldohulk has released a new version of Every ExteNDS which is a port of the PC game by Omega. The object of the game is to explode yourself as close to the enemies as possible causing a chain reaction explosion. See how many points you can get in one minute.

New in this version is an awesome replay feature and the possibility to submit your scores to the high score table along with various other things, check below for more information.

This version has only been tested on my hardware (SC DSOne), so I don't really know how it works on other cards.

To Love Ru Trouble: Waku Waku! Rinkangakkou-Hen is spinoff game from the manga series. Set to feature a few different modes of play. "Exciting Rinkan School mode" is a storymode with minigames which unfolds on the Rinkan school. "Challenge Mode" where you can play through the minigames you've unlocked in the exicting rinkan school mode, and you can change the characters clothing in the "MyCos-mode". Minigames include such exciting hits as "splat the bug on that loli ass" (which basically looks like Doki Doki Majo Shinpan's witch touching foolery), and also what looks like a really nice vertical STG. Shame there isn't actually a full game of that shooting stage. Marvelous Entertainment are releasing this one in a few days 28/08/08 to be exact.

Although the DS has already had it's fair share of DB games (fighers), this new one at least from the screens looks a lot better than the previous shovelware. Gameplay is said to be more like an Action RPG, apparently all the game operations can be executed with the stylus (think Zelda Phantom Hourglass). The story revolves around the early Dragon Ball manga, divided into units of episodes with Goku on his quest to find the Ball. It looks like there should be quite a bit of variety to the stages, one chapter seeing Goku on his cloud in a race against the boss (seen in the spoiler below). Check out some of the screens at Gpara, the 3d looks pretty solid. Bandai Namco games will release Dragon Ball DS in Japan on the 18th of September.

Kukulcan and Lobo have released yet another homebrew for the DS. A puzzle game named Element DS, which is an adaptation of the flash game "Colisso" created by Kurohako. This was entered into 2 homebrew competitions, NEO Flash compo and the new GBAtemp monthly homebrew bounty.

The recently released AmplituDS v4 gets an update in the shape of two new playable stages. No new download of the game is needed; these stages can be downloaded seperately on the AmplituDS forums linked to at the bottom of this post. Fellow DS-Scene Administrator Sander Stolk aka Dark Knight ez, has released a new version of his popular ds homebrew, AmplituDS. V4 has had a few bugs fixed, a couple of new features were added, and three new playable stages are up for download, with more in the making.

Now, what's new in AmplituDS v4?

• A new and improved way of adding worlds and stages! With the ease of dropping in a folder.
• New layouts and settings formats (made easy by a converter created by Aaron)
• Making hitting the targets more visual.
• Create several new looks for targets.

• Modification of palette colors. I intend to merge the transparency edit and palette edit into one option though, because it's a tad redundant...
